Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need to be a Gym Member to Book an Appointment?

Nope! Alpha Fitness has been gracious to let me rent their space, but you do not need to be a gym member to book an appointment.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Traditional Chinese Medicine views health as a state of balance within the body. Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points along the body’s meridian system to support the balanced flow of energy and address patterns of imbalance.

Biomedical perspectives decribe acupuncture as stimulating sensory nerves and tissues, which may influence the nervous system, pain-processing pathways, circulation, muscle activity, and the body’s stress and inflammatory responses.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Most people find acupuncture to be very comfortable. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, and insertion may feel like a brief pinch, pressure, or slight sensation. Once the needles are in place, many patients feel relaxed and may even fall asleep.

You may experience mild sensations such as warmth, heaviness, tingling, or a dull ache during treatment. Your comfort is always a priority, and your treatment can be adjusted at any time.

Are the Needles Sterile?

Yes. Acupuncture needles are sterile, single-use, and disposable. A new needle is used for every point and every patient, then safely discarded after treatment. This helps maintain a clean, safe treatment environment and minimizes the risk of infection.

How Many Treatments Will I Need & How Often?

It varies for each individual and the condition.

Acute issues: may resolve in 6-8 sessions
Chronic concerns: often require 12 or more sessions

It is common for most patient’s to initially be treated 1-3 times a week, depending on the severity of their symptoms and how long they have been experiencing them.

What Should I Expect During My First Appointment?

First visits usually take longer than initial visits, due to an extensive health intake. Following the intake, we will discuss your session goals, brief you on your acupuncture session, answer any questions and provide treatment. The treatment lasts approximately 25 minutes once the needles have all been placed. In total your session will last 1 hour. Please eat a light meal prior to your appointment.

Do You Treat Children?

Yes! Acupuncture may be used as supportive care for children and adolescents. Treatment is always age-appropriate, gentle, and individualized, with an emphasis on the child’s comfort and safety.

Depending on the child and the concern, care may include acupuncture or non-needle techniques such as acupressure, gentle massage, or other approaches.
